Profile: Clinical Executive Dr Patrick Feeney

An approved GP trainer for 24 years, Patrick has always had a keen interest in staff training, which forms a central part of his role at NDUC.

In charge of GP training, along with telephone triage training and performance management for NDUC, Patrick also oversees the service's practitioner recruitment. He has a special interest in telephone triage training, and has developed an assessment tool that is used in training and performance management under the organisation's clinical governance requirements.

Patrick joined NDUC in 1996 as medical director and, in 2004, he became one of two clinical executives, providing clinical direction and support.

Actively involved in organising a voluntary GP immediate care scheme in the Tynedale area, Patrick's previous roles also include a position as a clinical author on the NHS Pathways team, helping to develop a clinical decision support system.

Alongside his duties at NDUC, Patrick is the senior partner in a semi-rural practice in Stocksfield, Northumberland, where he has worked as a GP principal for 31 years.

Patrick is married with four children and three grandchildren.
